Joseph F. Mondello, age 82 of the Morgan section of Sayreville passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy. Born in Staten Island he had resided in Sayreville for the past 25 years. Before his retirement he was employed as a Firefighter for the NYC Fire Department for 20 years. He was a US Navy Veteran and was a member of the Cheesequake Memorial VFW Post 6761 and the Sayreville American Legion Post 211. He was a communicant of St Lawrence RC Church in Laurence Harbor where he was also a head usher for 20 years, ran the food pantry and was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. Joseph was a member and past Grand Knight of the 4th Degree Assembly of the Knights of Columbus Council #10281.

He is predeceased by his parents Emanuel and Irene and his brothers Jack and Samuel. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, the former Doris Reilly, his sons and daughter in laws, Joseph and Angela of Tennessee, Thomas of Freehold and Michael and Dawn of Texas, his grandchildren Ryne, Taylor, Valerie and Nicholas, his brother Frank and his wife Anne of Staten Island and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 8:15am Saturday from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin with a 9am Mass at St Lawrence RC Church in Laurence Harbor. Entombment will follow at St Joseph’s Cemetery in Keyport.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 4pm to 8pm.
