Childhood

I  apologize if this  memory is a  repeat. I lost what I  had earlier  typed.

But  my  condolences to the Keegan family. I  have  great memories of my   childhood  years  hanging out  with Walter. We were  constant  companions from around the  5th to  8th grades. We attended OLV and spent  countless hours riding our bikes all over town and helping out around the church and the school. I remember  his  family  well. We both were lucky  to be welcomed all the time into each other's  homes.

I am not surprised Walter maintained a love for automobiles. I am pretty sure that was handed down from his Dad  who used  to  run around in I would guess a Ford of  perhaps the 1940's  vintage. It was  not unusual to find Walter driving the thing on a back road even at an early age. I  picked up my interest in cars and modeling  from Walter.

We  loved  baseball as well. He  could really  run and  played  for Knights of Columbus in Little League. He  made the All Star team. I still have an old photo of  him and I  in New York on our way to the Baseball Hall of Fame with my parents.

He  introduced me to  crabbing as  well. We  bought the  cages and would hang out  by the river  near the brickyard.

We lost track of each  other  when we  went to different  high schools and I ended up here in Ohio. But  I  maintain a  lot of  great memories, his enjoyment of  rock 'n roll, going to the  first McDonalds in the area and  Walter  being the only one who would stand up to the  bully in grade school.

I  hope  his service  is a  happy one. I will   say  a prayer.
