Obituary for John W Saluka

South River
John Walter Saluka was born on October 2, 1930 and he passed on March 21, 2015, he was 84 years old. He was the son of John and Emma Saluka. John has joined his parents, his great granddaughter, Eliana Faith Zebrowski, and his first wife, Mildred Hodnicky-Saluka. He is survived by their five children and two daughter-in-laws: Melanie Auriemma (daughter), Jeffrey and Anton Saluka from Laurence Harbor, John Jr. and Ellyn Saluka from Fort Monmouth, and Fredrick and Michelle Saluka from Matawan. He is also survived by his five grandchildren and two great children. Additionally, he is survived by his second wife, Jennie Lola Torres and her eleven children, 47 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also deceased is Jennie’s youngest son, Raymond Peter Torres.
John suffered complications after surgery and passed unexpectedly on Saturday evening. John enjoyed his family, fishing off the jetty in his backyard, eating good meals and he had a love of “sweets” especially, cakes and chocolate candy bars. He liked to be on the go with his wife, Jennie, and enjoyed visiting people. He loved watching TV, especially, wrestling, old cowboy movies and some of the classics. He did enjoy horror movies; however, he would only watch them if his wife was not home, due to knowing she did not like them. John was a kind and good person. He didn’t want anyone to go out of their way for him and he was always concerned for others. John retired from the Old Bridge Township Board of Education as a head custodial employee. He was a US Army Veteran serving in WWII and a member of the Old Bridge Moose Lodge. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed deeply and dearly. His smiling face, his “I don’t know” “sing, song” remarks, and his sparkling “blue eyes” will always be cherished and remembered.
Services will be on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Maliszewski Funeral Home, the address is 218 Whitehead Ave. South River, New Jersey. The phone number is 732.254.0428.
