Joseph F. May age 79 of South River passed away Friday December 19, 2014 at Saint Peters University Medical Center, New Brunswick surrounded by his family. Born in Centralia, Pennsylvania he has resided in South River for the past 65 years. Before his retirement 14 years ago he was employed as a maintenance mechanic for Anhauser Bush in Spotswood for 18 years and prior to that for Chic-a-pea a division of Johnson & Johnson for 23 years. Mr. May was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a member and Chaplin for South River VFW Post 1451 and South River Knights of Columbus Council 3001. Joseph was a communicant of Corpus Christi R. C. Church in South River where he served as an usher and was a member of the Holy Name Society.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years Carol Dohn May, his children and their spouses Carla & Garry Clemente of South River, Melissa & Eric Gartner of South River and Joseph May and his fiancée Caren Caterina of Brick, his grandchildren Garry, Angela, Tony, Evan and Erin and his brother Leonard May of East Brunswick.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday 8:30am from the M.A. Maliszewski Funeral Home 218 Whitehead Avenue South River, followed by a 9am mass at Corpus Christi R. C. Church in South River with burial to follow at New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Monday from 5pm to 9pm. Members of South River VFW post 1451 will hold military services Monday 7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations in Joseph’s memory be made to the Menlo Park Veterans Home Bingo Account C/O Iris Jean George, 154 Oak Pines Blvd., Pemberton, N.J. 08817.
