Terry E. Popowski, age 69 of Sayreville passed away Sunday, October 19th2014 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in New Brunswick he had resided in Sayreville for the past 60 years. Before his retirement he was employed as a Police Officer for 32 years for the Sayreville Police Department retiring as a Sergeant in 2001. He was a US Army Veteran serving in 1965 as a Military Police Officer for 3 years in Offenbach, Germany. Terry was a communicant of St Stanislaus Kostka RC Church in Sayreville. He was a member of the Sayreville PBA Local 98, the Sayreville American Legion Post 211, was a past American Legion baseball coach and Sayreville Little League coach and board member, he coached basketball for St Stans Athletic Association grammar school, was an avid sportsman and fisherman and especially loved to fish with his dog Boomer. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. Terry will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving husband, father and grandfather who was known for his great wit and sense of humor.

He is predeceased by his parents Edward and Mary. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, the former Bonnie Butewicz, his son Michael and his wife Anna Marie of Eatontown, his beloved grandsons Matthew and Nicholas, his sisters Carole and her husband James Garbowski of Sayreville, Sherry Popowski of Glen Gardner, his brothers Ricky and his wife Linda of Sayreville and Randy of Smyrna, SC, his mother-in-law Lili Butewicz of South River and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 8:30am Thursday from the Maliszewski Memorial Home, 121 Main St., Sayreville with a 9am Mass at St Stanislaus Kostka RC Church in Sayreville. Burial will follow at St Stanislaus Cemetery in Sayreville.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Members of the American Legion Post 211 will hold services Wednesday 7:15pm at the funeral home.
