Obituary for John "Joey" Farkas

South River
John “Joey” Farkas, age 89, of South River, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 21, 2015, at Village on High Ridge, Lake Worth, Florida. Born in Nicholson Township, Pennsylvania he had resided in South River his entire live until moving to Boynton Beach Florida in 2013. Mr. Farkas proudly served his country during WW II in the U.S. Navy from 1943 through 1946 where he received the American Theater Medal, European Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with 9 Stars, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 Stars. After his discharge from the Navy in 1946 he was employed by the United States Department of Defense as a Quality Control Contractor until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Farkas was a member of the South River VFW Post 1456 and a communicant of Saint Mary of Ostrabrama R. C. Church in South River where he was a member of the Holy Name Society.

He is predeceased by his daughter Eileen (Farkas) Bara, his parents Joszef & Mary Farkas, his brothers Steven, Julius and Albert Farkas, and John and Ernest Baska. Surviving are his wife of 66 years Theresa Golaszewski Farkas, his son Joseph Farkas and his wife Brenda of Florida, his son-in-law Robert Donald Bara of Monroe, his grandchildren and their spouses Lt. Megan (USN) & Lt. David Piotrowski (USNR), Lt. Christopher Farkas (USN), Wendy & Larry Cutler, Donald Bara and Cheryl & Mike Della Valle, 3 great grandchildren and his sisters Mary Kalendek of Spotswood and Helen Baska of Stewarts Draft, VA.

Funeral services will be held Thursday 10:30am from the Maliszewski Funeral Home 218 Whitehead Avenue South River followed by a 11am Mass at Saint Mary of Ostrabrama R. C. Church in South River with burial to follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.
